Zip-lining

When Daddy asked us what we wanted to do in Hawaii, one of the things that I said was zip-lining.  I don't remember if he had mentioned it before or if I saw it advertised when we went kayaking a few years back, but it stuck in my head.  I'd never done zip-lining before but I wanted to do something new, exciting, and thrilling.  When I was younger I used to love roller coasters.  I think I first rode them when I was 5 or something.  When we went to Disneyland I rode Splash Mountain three times.  But somewhere between that age and now I stopped riding roller coasters.  But I wanted to get back into them, so my request was zip-lining.  We asked Emily if she wanted to try it and she quickly and simply said no.

So, today, Daddy took me zip-lining.  It was his first time too.  But after such an exciting experiment, I think we can say that it won't be our last time.  We had a blast!  All the things that could be scary were the things that were exciting: the height, speed, open view of everything.

The first zip-line was 800 ft. (240m) long.  This was the shortest one we would do today.

Nervous?  Not really.

All strapped in.

And there you go.  My first zip-line.  Since it was my first, I didn't bother with a camera or anything and just held on to the rope.  It was so much fun!  I was smiling the whole way.  And as you can see, I just went for it.  There some other adults in our group who had to do a countdown two or three times before they could take the leap.  There were a lot of R-rated words they were yelling at no one in particular to work up the courage to go.  After just one ride, I was hooked and could not wait for the next one.

The next one was a side-by-side 1800 ft. (0.55km) zip-line that had a center dismount.  That meant we went all the way to the end, slid back past the center a second time, and then got unhooked when we reached the center the third time.  The fact that it was side-by-side was good because that meant that Daddy and I could go together and also I would have a cameraman.  Check out his work.

 Smiles all the way.

The third and final zip-line was the longest.  Actually, it was the longest zip-line in the state of Hawaii.  It was 4000 ft. (1.2km) long.  That's 3/4 of a mile.  This was also a side-by-side zip-line, but as a fun bonus this was a superman style zip-line where instead of sitting we are strapped in so we fly down the line head first.  It was so long we could barely see the end.  That's far!  Again, other people in our group were freaking out a little bit, but I was excited and ready.  Take a look.

Pretty cool, huh?  I'll definitely be doing this again.
